Teacher: Mr. Reichentahl Mathematics
MATERIALS COME PREPARED TO CLASS! Bring to class every day
ê Pencils (no pen is allowed on quizzes, homework, or tests).
1 A three ring binder with plenty of paper and pocket dividers (label the dividers “warm ups”, “notes”, “homework”, and “tests/quizzes”. There may be notebook checks to grade you on your organization in this class.
2 A “pencil case” that fits into the binder and contains 2 – 3 pencils, erasers, ruler, 2 red pens, highlighters.
Homework: EXPECT HOMEWORK EVERY NIGHT. Students should write down assignments at the end of the class period.
Each assignment should start on a clean sheet of paper labeled with my name, your name, the date, the correct page number(s) and the problem numbers. Complete your assignment using pencil and you must show all work to support your answers.
1 Homework is checked daily for completion, not correctness. You will not be given credit for homework examples you leave “blank” because you “didn’t get it”. You must show a reasonable attempt to solve the problem
2 You are expected to review homework we correct in class – check over the problems you got wrong and put effort into correcting your errors and learning the concept.
3 Homework may be collected & graded or you may be given a homework quiz at any time to check for student preparation on an assignment.
Absences: Students are responsible for the work covered in class and for the homework assigned. STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO GET THEIR WORK BEFORE THE NEXT CLASS IF THEY ARE OUT ONLY ONE DAY (especially when on a field trip!). A student must be prepared to take quizzes in class if they are out only one day of school. Missed work (including tests & quizzes) must be made up promptly (two school days for every one day absent to make up work). Work missed because of a class cut cannot be made up and will be recorded as a zero. Parents are always notified when their child cuts my class.
Grading: Comprehensive exams, tests, quizzes, homework quizzes, notebook checks, projects, homework, and positive class participation will be used to assess the student’s knowledge of the subject matter.
Responsibility/Class Participation Grade: Students are expected to be Prompt, Prepared, Polite, and Productive during each class period. It is your responsibility to follow every rule set forth by myself and /or written in the student handbook. I also expect you to be responsible for your own learning.
Every student will begin each marking period with a 100% class participation grade. The following deductions apply:
●Not prepared for class (pencil, calculator, book, covered book) (-5) ●Tardy (-5)
●No homework (-5) ●Cut Class (-10) ●Cheating (-10)
Extra Help: All students need to see me for extra help when they are having difficulty with the material. Since the mathematics we learn builds on previous concepts – you can’t expect that some “not understood” idea will “go away”. I am eager to give you extra help to clear up any problems you might have! I ask students to please come with specific questions about what they find most difficult. Please make an appointment with me for extra help.
Other Policies:
1 If a student is in class and a project or graded homework assignment is not passed in on the assigned collection day the student will receive a grade of a zero. All projects and homework are due on the specified due date.
2 If a notebook or homework quiz is given in class, and you do not have your notebook, calculator or homework, you will still be required to take the quiz. Always be prepared for each class.
3 In this classroom, strict standards of behavior based on academic integrity, a personal sense of responsibility and responsiveness to the needs and rights of others will be enforced. At any time the teacher is speaking, no one else is. At any time a student asks a question, everyone listens. Failure to uphold these basic standards of behavior will result in a detention for inhibiting learning and a deduction from the class participation grade.
4 Pencil must be used on all homework, quizzes, and tests. Using a writing instrument other than pencil will result in a 5 point deduction from the earned grade.
Both the student and parent are requested to sign below, so that we may start the year fully aware of the procedures and expectations. If you have any questions, please call me at the school (203-497-7600) or email me at [email protected] Thank you!
